About Us

About RCSCC FREDERICTON

The unit was named after the corvette HMCS FREDERICTON, which served in the Second World War.

The second ship to bear the name HMCS FREDERICTON is a Halifax-Class frigate in the Canadian navy east coast fleet, based in Halifax.

HMCS FREDERICTON is our affiliated unit.

The Corps donated the original ship ensign and a navigational chart from the last Atlantic Ocean crossing by the original HMCS FREDERICTON to the new ship during her commissioning. The Commanding Officer of HMCS FREDERICTON had them properly encased and framed.Realizing the historical significance and considering the nature of an operational warship the crew felt the artefacts would be safer and better preserved if they were not kept on board. They returned them to RCSCC FREDERICTON. The ties between the ship and the sea cadet corps have been maintained over the years since commissioning.

RCSCC FREDERICTON has been recognized for excellence in many areas such as music, drill, biathlon and marksmanship. It has won awards for the top corps in New Brunswick, the Maritimes, and Canada. A number of cadets have been recognized for their outstanding performance both provincially and nationally.

The unit is extremely active in sports, including sailing, marksmanship, and biathlon, a sport combining the skills of cross country skiing and marksmanship. Over the past several seasons this unit has placed at the provincial level and has sent individual competitors and teams to the Canadian Cadet National Biathlon Competition. Corps biathlon team members have competed in the Canada Winter Games.

RCSCC FREDERICTON's community service activities have included collecting food for the Fredericton Food Bank, looking after a section of the Lincoln Road in the Adopt-a-Highway program, playing in community parades and at the Veterans Nursing Unit, and volunteer service at the IWK FundRaising Event, among other activities.
